Closed and Open Collaborative Networks

December 28th, 2008 by Todd Mace in Events, Science, Social Networking

In this 2005 talk, Clay Shirky shows how closed groups and companies will give way to looser networks where small contributors have big roles and fluid cooperation replaces rigid planning. This is interesting to ponder when thinking about how churches and denominations operate. What are hybrid ways that a group can collaborate and when does a group become an institution? All-important questions to ask when visualizing what a church organization might look like in the future.

GoBible is the first company in world that has taken the audio of the entire Bible and broken it down to the verse level so that the user can begin to play, bookmark or repeat individual verses. It also includes, story index, holiday/event index and a Bible reading plan in a year. This is a portable MP3 device that is very small and doesn’t require a computer or any software downloads. This would make a great Christmas gift this year.  For my loyal readers, if you click this link you will receive a 10% discount on your purchase at GoBible.

Volunteer > TimeBank

December 14th, 2008 by admin in General, Philanthropy

Volunteering is becoming a very much needed and desirable way to give back to those in need. A UK based organization “TimeBank” is trying to organize and empower people to volunteer in their area of interest. I tend to think that volunteerism  will be the future of growth of philanthropy.

“TimeBank is a national charity inspiring and connecting a new generation of people to volunteer in their communities, and enabling charitable organisations and businesses to develop innovative and effective volunteer recruitment programmes.”
